SACRAMENTO, Calif. – Five-time defending champion Mt. The CCCAA NATYCAA Cup is an all-sports competition in which colleges are awarded points based on their teams’ final positions in post-conference competition. Points are tabulated throughout the year with the final standings using only the top five totals from each school’s men’s and women’s scores.
Points are awarded to 20 teams in each sport with championship teams receiving the maximum of 20. The CCCAA conducted 10 championships during the fall in men’s and women’s cross country, men’s and women’s soccer, men’s and women’s water polo, football, women’s volleyball, women’s golf and wrestling.
The Rams (87.5 pts) led all teams with three state championships in the fall, capturing banners in men’s soccer, women’s soccer and wrestling, while adding points in four other sports. The Mounties, besides their two titles, also scored well in men’s soccer (17.5) and compiled their total in six sports overall.
San Joaquin Delta garnered 50.5 points of its total in women’s sports, thanks to a state runner-up finish in volleyball, a fourth in water polo and a tie for fifth in soccer. Santa Barbara rode a state championship in water polo, a runner-up showing in soccer and a third-place in golf to post a strong showing in women’s sports with 57 points also.
NATYCAA is the professional organization of two-year college athletic administrators and membership is open to all two-year institutions from throughout the country. The NATYCAA Awards were designed to recognize and reward overall program excellence at the two-year college level. The criterion for the State Associations division was developed by the CCCAA in conjunction with the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA). This is the 15th year that NATYCAA has sponsored a State Associations division.
The 2017-18 NATYCAA Cup winner will be recognized at the NATYCAA Awards Luncheon, held during the 2018 NATYCAA Convention in Washington, D.C. in June.
