Mt. SAC Wins The NATYCAA Cup For Second Straight Year
Sacramento, CA . . .The California Community College Athletic Association (CCCAA), in association with the National Alliance of Two-Year College Athletic Administrators (NATYCAA), today released the final CCCAA standings of the 2013-14 NATYCAA Cup.
Mt. San Antonio College (Walnut, CA) topped the final standings with a score of 176.5 points for their second NATYCAA Cup win in as many years. They have become the first school to earn back-to-back NATYCAA Cup victories. Last year Mt. SAC beat the CCCAA record point total with 177.5, a mark they missed by just one point in the 2013-14 seasons. This is Mt. SAC’s fourth time winning the prestigious award, all within the last six years. Their previous wins came in the 2008-09, 2010-11 and the 2012-13 seasons. Coming in second is Orange Coast College (Costa Mesa, CA), with a total of 172.5 points. Placing third for the second year in a row was American River College (Sacramento, CA) with 148.5 points. Rounding out the top ten is Fresno City College (Fresno, CA), Riverside City College (Riverside, CA), Cerritos College (Norwalk, CA), Santa Rosa Junior College (Santa Rosa, CA), Sierra College (Rocklin, CA), earning their first top ten placement in ninth, San Joaquin Delta College (Stockton, CA) and Golden West College (Huntington Beach, CA).
During the 2013-14 season Mt. San Antonio won a State championship in women’s track & field and earned second place finishes in men’s soccer, women’s basketball, women’s softball and men’s swim & dive. They also had third place finishes in women’s cross country and men’s wrestling as well as earning spots in the State championships in men’s track & field, men’s cross country and women’s swim & dive. Mt. San Antonio College has a strong history in the NATYCAA Cup placing in the top two in each of the last six years and never placing below sixth in the awards 11 year history.
A college is awarded points based on its team’s final positions in post-conference competition. Each college’s top-five men’s and top-five women’s team results count toward the school’s overall point total. NATYCAA is the professional organization of two-year college athletic administrators and membership is open to all two-year institutions throughout the country. The NATYCAA Awards were designed to recognize and reward overall program excellence at the two-year college level. The criterion for the State Association’s division was developed by the CCCAA in conjunction with the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA). This is the eleventh year that NATYCAA has sponsored a State Association’s division. Sierra College captured the inaugural award in 2003-04, Fresno City College won the award in 2004-05, Long Beach City College claimed the top spot in 2005-06, Orange Coast won in 2006-07, Fresno City took the award for the second time in the 2007-08 season, Mt. San Antonio won in 2008-09, Orange Coast won for the second time during 2009-10, Mt. SAC won their second Cup in 2010-11, Fresno City earned their third victory in 2011-12 and Mt. SAC won their third title in 2012-13.
Mt. San Antonio College will be recognized along with Orange Coast and American River at the NATYCAA Awards Luncheon, held during the 2014 NATYCAA Convention on Monday, June 9, at the World Center Marriott Resort in Orlando, Florida. Awards will be presented to the top three colleges and the top twenty schools in the division will receive recognition.
