CCCAA places two more in sports information leadership roles with CoSIDA
SACRAMENTO – California Community College Athletic Association sports information veterans Nicho DellaValle of Riverside City College and David Silverstein of Butte College, have been appointed to the two-year divisional cabinet for the College Sports Information Directors of America (CoSIDA).
The divisional cabinets are part of a governance restructure for CoSIDA, a national organization of more than 3,000 sports information professionals throughout North America and encompassing every level of college athletics. The cabinets were formed this fall for each of the NCAA Div. I, II and III levels, NAIA, two-year and Canadian institutions, and CoSIDA Past Presidents. They’ll work with a newly formed Advisory Council to create greater voices for each level among CoSIDA leadership.
DellaValle and Silverstein join Mike Robles, CCCAA Director of Communications, in CoSIDA leadership positions. Robles is currently serving a two-year term on the 16-person CoSIDA Executive Board of Directors. He's the only board member from the two-year level but as a College Division Representative, he represents all non-NCAA Div. I SIDs in the West Region.
“Sports information professionals play a critical role in the mission of college athletics,” said Jennifer Cardone, CCCAA Interim Executive Director. “Not only do they support the day-to-day operations of their athletic departments, but more importantly, they’re the story-tellers for their student-athletes and coaches. Despite having a very limited number of sports information directors in the CCCAA, we’re fortunate to be well-represented in CoSIDA leadership positions.
“Nicho and David are well-respected not only among their peers but also by countless athletic directors, staff and coaches throughout the state and are well-deserving of their appointments.”
DellaValle began a three-year term this summer as president of the California Community College Sports Information Association (CCCSIA) while Silverstein is president-elect and will assume the top role in 2023.
DellaValle is in his fourth year as the Director of Sports Information at Riverside City College, overseeing internal and external marketing and communications for the Tigers’ 19 intercollegiate sports. He is responsible for the school’s athletics website (www.rcctigers.com), handles social media management, branding and design. Additionally, he oversees and directs game management protocols and fundraising initiatives, and supports internship programs and the Student-Athlete Advisory Council.
He is also the Orange Empire Conference webmaster/SID. DellaValle, who received a communications and marketing undergraduate degree from Cal Lutheran where he was also a member of the baseball team for four years, earned an MBA from the University of Redlands as well. DellaValle served in sports information roles at both Redlands and Long Beach City College before joining Riverside City.
Silverstein is a longtime contributor to the CCCAA as both a coach and sports information director. He began his tenure as an assistant women’s basketball coach for Butte College in 1998, where he attended, and joined the football staff a year later. Silverstein eventually transitioned into keeping and maintaining the football program’s statistics and was with the Roadrunners when they captured CCCAA Championships in 2008 and 2013.
He added baseball statistician duties at Butte and has been the official statistician for the California Community College Baseball Coaches Association (CCCBCA) as well. Silverstein, who also serves as the official statistician at the annual CCCAA Baseball Championship, is the sports information director for the Bay Valley, Big 8, Western State and Northern California Football conferences. For his efforts, he was selected as the CCCSIA’s Brass Top Award winner in 2018.
Both DellaValle and Silverstein have assisted with sports information duties at numerous CCCAA Championships.
